Friday, 4th May 2018   SNOWDONIA WEEKEND 2018    3 nights    Grade 3
I know that it seems a long way off but I am organising a trip away to Snowdonia for the group for the first bank holiday weekend in May 2018. The dates are 4th May until 7th May 2018. The YHA is Snowdon Bryn Gwynant which is close to the lovely little town of Beddgelert. It is in the heart of Snowdonia National Park with plenty of hiking opportunities but also shops and pubs nearby in Beddgelert for us to venture to after walking. Walks are yet to be decided but you can walk to the Watkins path (up Snowdon) from the hostel, so a strong possibility. The cost of the accommodation varies from £16.99 for a bed in a dorm, more if you wish to have a private room. I am happy to arrange accommodation for the dorms. If you would like a private room, please could you arrange yourself. The hostel we are staying at is 4 miles from Beddgelert. The link to the website is: http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/snowdon-bryn-gwynant. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to come so that I can secure the booking. Thanks all. Sunday, 13th May 2018   PEAKY BLINDER    17 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK202858. After descending Winnats Pass, the road meets the junction of the A6187 on the outskirts of Castleton. Continue through Castleton and Hope (approx. 10 mins), turning left at Sickleholme Service Station. Follow the main road through Bamford, along the A6013 passing the Ladybower Dam on the left-hand side. Heatherdene car park can be found a few hundred yards further on the right. Nearest postcode S33 0BY. Some free parking is also available alongside the reservoir.
A blinder of a walk in the Peak District. At 17 miles this is an ideal 'training walk' for those considering the longer challenges planned for later in the summer. Also for anyone who enjoys long walks, combined with a few hills and stunning views. For anyone looking for a shorter walk, we return to the cars after 8.5 miles, following the descent of Win Hill. Starting alongside the Ladybower reservoir, we will cross the dam and enjoy a steady couple of miles alongside the reservoir, before climbing up to the Roman Road. We'll then follow this on a long, gradual climb up to the summit of Win Hill. Descending to the outskirts of Bamford, there is the option of a stop for a pint, followed by another climb up to Bamford Edge. Heading towards Stanage Edge, we will then walk the full length of the ridge, before descending to end the walk in Hathersage, for a well-earned pint. We can then catch the train back to Bamford (4 minutes). It's only a short...ish walk back to the car from there! If anyone is tempted by a meal after the walk then the pub by the car park serves great food too. Lunch required.

Sunday, 21st October 2018   KINDER SCOUT FROM EDALE    8 miles  5 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK124853. Details to f Parking is at the main public car park (postcode S33 7ZD) in Edale (it costs approx £5 for the day,so have sufficient change and consider car-sharing!) The car park is situated off Edale road, by the village hall (S33 7ZA) and across from the Rambler Inn pub. From Buxton, take the A6 towards Chapel-en-le-Frith and turning right at the roundabout, take the A623 towards Sparrowpit and then Edale is signposted off this road. There are toilets at the carpark!
8 mile circular from Edale, scrambling up Grindsbrook Clough waterfall, and down Jacob's Ladder. From the car park, we head on a trail, climbing gently towards Grindsbrook Clough gorge/waterfall where we scramble over the rocks to the top, which forms the east side of Kinder Scout. Whilst relatively steep in places, this is actually only a Grade 1 scramble on the rocks around the waterfall (plenty of children do it!), you won't need to wade through water (assuming the weather has been reasonable!) and it is really only because of this scrambling element and the general height/exposure of Kinder at the top, that this is classed as a Grade 3. Once at the top, we will (hopefully!) be rewarded with stunning views across the valley. We then continue across the plateau on the Pennine Way path towards Crowden Brook. Eventually, we begin to descend, via some moorland, and then down Jacob's Ladder (the start of the Pennine Way), a relatively steep, but paved path, down to the hamlet of Upper Booth and then across moorland, fields and road back to Edale. Since there is a pub across from the car park, it would be rude not to stop by for a swift half! Because of the scrambling and often boggy conditions on the plateau, gaiters advised. Lunch required.

Friday, 7th December 2018   CHRISTMAS IN MATLOCK    2 nights    Grade 2
Fancy something different for the Christmas weekend away this year? Instead of Castleton, we are going to go to Matlock! Lovely little town with pretty boutiques, nice bars, pubs and a fab choice of yummy restaurants. There is also nearby Matlock Bath which i think is like a seaside resort without the beach and sea! Cable cars and Castles also nearby! As well as all this, we will fit some fab walking in too! I bet it will be really pretty at Christmas time! I have provisionally booked 14 rooms at the Premier Inn for 2 nights at the cheap price of £52.10 per person based on 2 people sharing a room. Let me know if you can come. The rooms will go on a first come first served basis. However you must be a member of the ramblers and people affiliated with our group will take priority. The address for the Premier Inn is Bakewell Road, Matlock, Derbyshire DE4 3AZ.
