Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ700044. The start point is a large free parking area on your left as soon as you enter Legges Way, Madeley, Telford, TF7 5UD from off the Madeley roundabout.
This walk broadly follows the route of the Telford Heritage trail. It starts in Madeley and takes in the areas of Coalport and Ironbridge, where I propose to break for lunch in a picnic area. There is plenty of woodland walking and a short walk through Telford town park. Not as urban as it might initially sound. Lots of ups and downs :) and very slippery and boggy in sections especially if it rains so bring gaiters if you like them and definately no trainers. There are shops and toilets at Madeley and Ironbridge, a pub stop might be useful time-willing for a toilet break towards the end. Strava says 13.8 miles total. Lunch required.

Sunday, 24th April 2016   CHASEWATER AND SOUTH STAFFS RAMBLE    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK039071. Post Code for car park by outdoor/innovation centre WS8 7NL. Please check route before you set off as some Sat Navs take you to the wrong place with this postcode. Take the A5 from Cannock towards Brownhills and Chasewater will be signposted. If approaching from the other way, please allow more time for your journey as roadworks on A5 mean that the specific exit on the roundabout is closed. To access A5 is accessible from J11 of M6 or from T7 on M6 toll.
Starting with a loop around Chasewater, there may be an opportunity for a cafe stop at Brownhills West station on the steam railway, if it is open early, and we may see the train. Following this, we will cross M6 toll and go via the Beacon Way to the canal towpath via Pelsall (possibility for a pub stop here) and return to Chasewater via Little Wyrley. Cafe stop could be at the end if preferred. Gaiters are strongly advised as large sections of this walk were muddy on the recce. Due to the fact that we passed within meters of Bambi and his family on this walk, sadly, it is not suitable for dogs. Car sharing is also strongly advised as, although there is ample parking, Chasewater is a very popular local visitor attraction and can get very busy on weekends. Lunch required.

Sunday, 8th May 2016   THE ROACHES    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK006615. Drive along the A53 from Leek towards Buxton, after passing through Blackshaw Moor there is a turning on the left marked Upper Hulme and tea rooms which is easy to miss but there is another turning into the village just after. In the village there is a turning on the left which descends and is marked tea rooms again. Follow this past the bunkhouse on the left and immediately after a sign marking a turning into Roaches Hall on your right there is a parking area on the right. If this is full there is a further 3 parking areas going up to Roaches Gate, but we will gather at the one at the bottom by the turning into Roaches Hall. These parking areas are free.
For me this is one of the best walks in the area so I thought it was time we revisited. The parking areas get very busy so arriving on time/early and car sharing is strongly advised. We start by ascending Hen Cloud before taking a path to the North of the Roaches and ascending their North side along a path that follows the path of a stream. We then walk along the Roaches before taking a woodland walk taking in the chasm of Lud's Church before most likely stopping for lunch at an attractive rock formation or further on at Hanging Rock. We then walk along the Roaches again on the way back which provides spectacular views on a clear day. Gaiters recommended. I propose quaffing a well earned ale in the 3 Horseshoes in Blackshaw Moor on the way back. Lunch required.

From Spout Lane (Road walking) we will head to the start of Little Hill (Little its not) for a ascent upto the top of Wrekin(407m) pass the Needles Eye and onto the top. I will state that both the ascents of Ercall and the Wrekin are steep but the views on top are well worth it as you can see 4 counties and plus the Shropshire Hills. From the top we head down the other side of the Wrekin which was a former Roman fort but this isn't as steep as our ascents and back to the Car Park. Gaiters may be required as at the time of the recce it was muddy in the forest and Lunch will required. After the walk, We can head to the Huntsman Inn for well deserved drink. Lunch required.

Sunday, 5th June 2016   CONSALL    8 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ980487. Postcode: ST9 OAF. Parking is at Consall Visitor Centre, which is within Consall Nature Park, where the walk starts. Follow Leek Road A522, off Kingsley Rd A52 (brown Consall Hall Gardens sign), then turn onto Consall Lane. Follow this road through the village, all the way past Consall Hall Gardens. There is a Staffordshire County Council sign indicating the entrance, and you then follow the long drive down into the carpark.
A lovely woodland walk, incorporating the red, white and purple and green trails through the Nature Park itself! Hopefully the bluebells will still be in bloom, but there are still some fantastic views to be had! We then leave the park to go to Consall Lock and walk along the canal for a short stretch (quite possibly seeing the Churnet Valley steam train along the way!). A climb through another wood into meadows above is rewarded with views that extend across Staffordshire in fine weather. We pass through farmland and then back down to the canal, via woodland, where we will have a refreshing stop-off at the wonderful Black Lion pub, right next to the vintage Consall Station, before returning to the Nature Park. Some fairly steep ascents in woodland (steps in places but not everywhere and about 300m climb overall), hence Grade 2. Gaiters advised, as there were still very muddy patches on the recce, despite glorious weather! Should be approximately 5 hrs, dependent on length of pub stop (and how long it takes me to climb through the wood!) ;-) Lunch required.

Saturday, 9th July 2016  DERBY PUB CRAWL
Start Time: 12 noon Derby Town Centre
As the girls spent a day being pampered at an exclusive spa recently, I thought I'd arrange a lad's day out in Derby to compensate! It's happening on Saturday 9th July. We'll get the train and meet in Derby centre at around midday, have some lunch over a pint or two, and then move onto the next pub, we'll eat again at tea time, getting the train back home at around 8pm. If you're up for it, please join this event on FaceBook now :-)! Cheers all, Lee

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK091669. The walk starts in Earl Sterndale by The Quiet Woman pub, postcode SK17 0BU. Parking is available on the road but it is a small village so I would recommend car sharing where possible

If you pass through Longnor on your drive to Earl Sterndale, there are public toilets there. This walk consists of 5 hills with very steep inclines and walking along several narrow ridges. The hills we will ascend are Hitter Hill, Parkhouse Hill, Chrome Hill, Hollins Hill and High Wheeldon (the latter being the highest at 420 metres). It is a difficult and challenging walk but worth it for the spectacular scenery. If the weather is bad on the day, an alternative route around the hills might be taken for safety reasons. Walking poles would be helpful on this walk. Lunch required.

Sunday, 9th October 2016   RAMBLE FOR CHILDREN IN NEED - KINDER DOWNFALL    10 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK047869.
10 years ago on Sunday 8th October 2006, Kinder Downfall was my first walk with Staffs Walkers.
By coincidence it happens to fall on the same weekend that Countryfile are promoting a national Ramble weekend for Children In Need.
To celebrate all the miles I've enjoyed walking and all the friends I've made, I'd like us to join in with the Ramble for Children In Need event.
I'll make a donation for each person who attends and those who join the walk can make a contribution if they want to.
If anybody would like to go the extra mile, you can also download sponsor forms from the Countryfile website.
Follow the A6 from Buxton to Chapel-en-le-Firth. From Chapel follow the A624 to Hayfield. In Hayfield follow Bank Street (approx 1 mile) to the car park at Bowden Bridge.
Start from Bowden Bridge car park. The walk passes Kinder Reservoir before making a steady ascent via William Clough to the Kinder Plateau. The route follows the plateau to Kinder Downfall, Kinder Low, Edale rocks and Brown Knoll before descending back to Bowden Bridge. Lunch required.

Sunday, 16th October 2016   BROWN CLEE HILL    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SO607872. The postcode is WV16 6TA near Bridgnorth should rather conveniently take you directly to the start point for this walk. There is a reasonably sized layby type area at the side of the road here. So parking is free but car sharing and arriving early is very much advised. There is a footpath sign and a community noticeboard opposite the layby so it should be easy to spot.
What's that Shropshire's biggest hill you say, never climbed it? Now's your chance! we begin with the fortifying ascent of Brown Clee Hill (approx 200m ascent to height of 540m). We are then treated to stunning views of the Shropshire countryside from both sides of the hill that remain present through much of the walk. After descending a little we then climb another peak of a similar height nearby before circling round and completing a woodland walk back to the start point. There are sheep in close proximity throughout much of the walk so probably not great for dogs. But good if you like sheep. I haven't managed to squeeze in a pub on this route but may be able to extend it to incorporate one if people are willing I can also suggest dropping in to The White Hart On High Street, Shifnal on the way back, TF11 8BH for a well-earned ale, unless someone can suggest a good pub with parking space in Bridgnorth? Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK099406. Parking at Denstone village hall car park, College Road, Denstone. Nearest postcode ST14 5HR. From the A50, exit forRocester (roundabout just before McDonald's, following the B5030 towards Rocester, passing JCB. Denstone is signposted left just after JCB. Follow the B5031 into Denstone turning left into College Road (just before the farm shop on the right). The car park is situated just beyond the mini roundabout. It is a reasonable size and does state that it is for use of 'patrons of the village',which I consider us to be, but is also used by the pub across the road, as well as obviously users of the hall, so car sharing advised just so we don't hog all the space!
We're gonna take a walk, to a place that's dark and spooky, This could be kind of fun, and creepy and kooky! This walk starts off with a very sedate couple of miles along the old railway track, now known as the Churnet Valley trail. We follow this flat, tree-lined path, passing Alton Castle high up on the left, until we reach the old Alton Station. After a steep but short climb into Alton Village (possibility of pub stop, if required!), we can visit the Castle building, before passing through the village via road, then across fields and pastureland down to Croxden, to see the ruins of a 12th century abbey and church. We then continue through fields up towards the picturesque Denstone College (passing through its golf course?!), before heading back down into the village. Pub conveniently situated opposite the car park. Fancy dress not in any way mandatory, but more than welcome for those who wish to get into the 'spirit' of things ;-). Did the recce after a dry spell and still got mud up trousers, so gaiters advised. This is an easy going walk in general, mainly grade 2 due to distance.
