Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ973210. From Stafford, take the A513 towards Rugeley. Meet in the Pay and Display car park (£1 charge) at Milford Common, opposite the Little Fawn cafe.
An easy walk to start the New Year taking in the grounds of Shugborough, the Trent and Mersey Canal and Cannock Chase. Lunch required.

Sunday, 17th January 2010   BOSLEY CLOUD    7 miles  3 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ935623. From Leek take the A523 Macclesfield road and travel to Rushton Spencer. On entering the village, turn left into Station Lane and proceed to the Knot Inn. Parking is adjacent to the pub, on the Staffordshire Way car park.
From Rushton we travel over moorlands to the neolithic Bridestones monument, and continue through woodland up and over Bosley Cloud. Following the River Dane and the disused North Rode to Leek railway line we return to Rushton, where the opportunity of a well earned pint awaits. Lunch required.

Saturday, 23rd January 2010   BREWOOD AND CHILLINGTON    5 miles  2 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ883086. From the A5, turn off towards Brewood to T-junction. Turn right towards village centre. Follow road, turn right by The Lion Hotel. Turn right again onto the village car park (off Stafford Street).
The walk starts in the centre of Brewood, a delightful Staffordshire village which was originally a Roman Fort. We will take in Chillington Hall and Parklands, most of which owe their present form to Capability Brown. Views of Belvide Reservoir can be seen before our return to Brewood where there will, no doubt, be time for a pint in one of the lovely pubs in the village. Lunch required.

Sunday, 24th January 2010   CHURNET VALLEY AND THE JCB TEST TRACK    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK052446. In Cheadle turn into Queen Street by The Alton Castle pub, and follow the B5417 towards Oakamoor. Coming down Church Bank into Oakamoor turn right into Mill Road, the Cark Park is on the right.
Leaving Oakmoor we'll wander along the side of the Churnet Valley, visit the JCB test track, where we may catch some of the diggers dancing in their native habitat before exploring the other side valley and returning to Oakamoor, and a visit to the pub. Lunch required.

Sunday, 31st January 2010   TEGG'S NOSE FROM TRENTABANK    8 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ961711. From Leek take the A523 (Macclesfield road), and before entering Macclesfield turn right towards Sutton and Langley. The reservoir is in about 2 miles. The start is the Trentabank Reservoir Car Park with toilets.
This walk was originally created to provide an interesting and scenic walk during the foot and mouth crisis using paths that had reopened. The whole route stays within Cheshire, with roughly half of the walk being within the boundaries of the Peak District National Park. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ987570. From Stoke, travelling on the A53, drive towards the centre of Leek, and immediately on leaving the centre go straight ahead at the traffic lights where you will see Brough Park immediately ahead of you. Follow the road for 100 yards and park at the leisure centre. Phone me if you get lost!
A pleasant walk from Leek Park to Tittesworth visitor centre where we will stop for lunch, returning via Abbey Green. Lunch required.

Saturday, 13th February 2010   AROUND DIMMINGSDALE    5 miles  2 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK052446. CHANGE TO MEETING PLACE FOR START OF WALK: Meet in the Public Car Park at the Ramblers Retreat (ST10 4BU). Follow the B5417 from Cheadle towards Oakamoor. Just before crossing the bridge into Oakamoor village turn right onto Mill Rd (signs for Ramblers Retreat) and follow the road to the car park.
This forest walk has some moderately steep climbs which are rewarded by some splendid views of the Churnet Valley and over the canopy to Alton. Chance for a pint or a cup of tea at the ramblers Retreat at the end of the walk too!

Sunday, 14th February 2010   FRADLEY JUNCTION, KINGS BROMLEY AND ALREWAS    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK143140. Take the A513 towards Kings Bromley. At Kings Bromley, take the A513 towards Alrewas. At Orgreave, turn right and follow signs to Fradley Junction. Follow road to car park (DE13 7DN) for the start point. There is a small charge for the car park.
A level walk through the Trent Valley water meadows. We head initially to Kings Bromley and up to Yoxall. From there we follow the River Trent, with views of Wychnor Hall and Park, to Alrewas. The final stage of the walk is along the Trent & Mersey canal back to Fradley Junction where you can expect a stop for a well earned pint! Lunch required.

Sunday, 21st February 2010   CHURNET VALLEY AND THE WEAVER HILLS    13 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK085501. The car park is in Waterhouses which is on the A523 (Leek to Ashbourne Road). Turn by The Old Crown Inn (sign posted Manifold Trail), and the car park is on the left next to the cycle hire. Charge of £3.50 per day
From Waterhouses we head south to the River Churnet and Oakamoor, following the line of the railway. We pass Alton Towers before heading back to Waterhouses, passing around the Weaver Hills and Wredon quarry. Lunch required.

Sunday, 28th February 2010   VIEWS ABOVE DOVEDALE    13 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK164505. From the A515 Ashbourne - Buxton road, take the Dovedale turn, then head towards Thorpe. Park at Narlow's Lane car park opposite the Dog and Partridge pub.
This walk begins with a steep ascent and descent of Thorpe Cloud, before we climb out of Dovedale, via Bunster Hill, and continue, via Hall Dale and Hurts Wood, along Dovedale's western rim. Passing through Alstonefield and Milldale, the return journey takes in the eastern rim of Dovedale before the descent to the car park. This walk includes a number of steep and prolonged ascents/descents (approx. 700 metres over the length of the walk), so if you've got walking poles bring them along. Lunch required.

A relaxing walk along the Birmingham Main Line canal and then through the 3 km Netherton Tunnel, so bring a torch! We catch the bus back from Dudley to Wolverhampton, so bring some change. Lunch required.

Saturday, 20th March 2010   CANNOCK CHASE WALK    6 miles  3 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ983207. Follow the A34 out of Stafford and pick up the A513 towards Milford at Radford Bank. Follow the A513 through Milford towards Rugeley. The car park is on the left hand side of the road opposite the Punch Bowl car park.
The walks starts from Satnall Hills car park and takes in Shugborough Hall and Parklands. From there we will follow the Staffordshire Canal back to Milford and the car park. A reasonably easy walk with one "up" at the end!

Sunday, 21st March 2010   ASHFORD-IN-THE-WATER AND CRESSBROOK DALE    12 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK195698. From the A6 between Buxton and Bakewell turn onto the road sign-posted Ashford-in-the-Water. Then turn first left and follow the road around until you see the P sign for the free car park. It is small, but there are other street spaces if needed.
Starting from Ashford in the Water, we'll head north to the village of Great Longstone, then a steep climb over Longstone Edge to Black Harry Lane. After a while we head West across rolling fields toward Cressbrook Dale, and following the dale pass by Cressbrook Mill and join part of the Monsal Trail. We then head back via Monsal Head to some welcome refreshments in Ashford. Lunch required.

Sunday, 28th March 2010   KETTLESHULME & SPONDS HILL    8 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ956795. Head for Pott Shrigley from the B5470 coming out of Macclesfield. Start from a small parking space on the road from Pott Shrigley to Kettleshulme marked as 'Bakestonedale Road'. WARNING; Car parking is limited. There is a small car parking area at the start point and one or two areas along the road, so car sharing is advised if you can!
This route dispels the idea that Cheshire is a flat county!! This walk has a couple of long steep ascents towards the end but your efforts are well rewarded by nice views and interesting changes of landscape. Lunch required.

Friday, 2nd April 2010   SNOWDONIA    3 nights    Grade 4
THIS IS NOW FULLY BOOKED - Accommodation will be at the Kings (Dolgellau) youth hostel (LL40 1TB). From Llangollen take the A5, then the A494, and, just before Dolgellau, turn right onto the A470. After passing Dolgellau turn left onto the A493, and, after a few miles, take a sharp left towards the youth hostel. For those of us arriving on Friday morning/lunchtime there will be a short walk , starting from the hostel at 2pm, which will be a circular route passing by Llyn Gwernan lake. Our weekend will get into full swing on Saturday when we'll attempt an ascent of Cadair Idris, at 893m (2,930ft), one of Wales's most rewarding mountain climbs. Sunday's walk will be a circular walk, taking in part of the Mawddach Trail, and offering spectacular views of the sea and surrounding hills. Remember to take enough provisions to last until the return journey on Monday. There are still places at the Youth Hostel if you wish to come along. You will however have to book directly with the Hostel. Please don't try and add yourself to the group booking, it will only confuse Beckie!

Fancy trying a 'high-wire forest adventure'? Using harnesses, pulleys and karabiners you can navigate a giant obstacle course high amongst the trees. The course typically takes 2-3 hours to complete, and costs £30 per session. Checkout the Go Ape! website for more details: http://www.goape.co.uk

Cannock Go Ape is located at Birches Valley Forest Centre (not Cannock Chase Visitor Centre), just 2 miles from Rugeley, off the Rugeley to Penkridge road at the junction where Birches Valley road meets Penkridge Bank road. From Cannock, take the A460 into Rugeley town. Take the turning up to Stone & Stafford for 200yds (Western Springs Avenue). Turn at the traffic lights (signposted Penkridge) and Go Ape is 2 miles up this road. From Penkridge, take the B5012 to Cannock for a 2 miles. Turn off on to the signposted Rugeley road, and Go Ape 2 miles before Rugeley.

Sunday, 11th April 2010   BURBAGE AND GOYT'S MOSS    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK012748. From Leek take the A53 to Buxton, then travel along the A5004 for approx 2 miles before turning left along Goyt's Lane. Parking is at the Errwood Hall car park at the southern end of Errwood Reservoir.
Starting at the reservoir we'll make out way towards Wild Moor (aptly named) via Bunsal Cobb. Travelling over the moor past Burbage Edge we'll continue on to the outskirts of Buxton, before turning for Goyt's Moss. Traversing the Moss we'll ascend Stakeside, at 525m the highest point of our walk. We'll then return to the reservoir via Shooter's Clough and the ruins of Errwood Hall. Lunch required.

Sunday, 18th April 2010   ROBIN HOOD'S STRIDE    13 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK270621. On the A515 (Buxton to Ashbourne) turn left on to the A5012 towards Pikehall. Where the A5012 bends off to the right, take the left turn towards Winster. Cross over the B5056, pass Winster itself, and join the B5057 to Darley Bridge. Follow the B5057 through Darley Bridge, cross the bridge over the river and we'll meet at the car park on left just beyond the bridge (opposite the Square & Compass).
Our route will pass through Upper Town, Bradford, and Winster, utilising the Limestone Way for much of the second half of the walk before returning to Darley Bridge, and the pub. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ988699. From Leek take the A53 Macclesfield road. Turn right at the Bosley Crossroads onto the A54, and just before Allgreave turn left and travel towards Wildboarclough. Park at the car park next to Clough House.
A walk across moorland and through woods, taking in Shining Tor, Tegg's Nose and Shutlingsloe. This walk features quite a number of steep and prolonged ascents/descents. Lunch required.

Friday, 30th April 2010   LAKE DISTRICT WEEKEND AT YHA LANGDALE    3 nights    Grade 4
A weekend in the beautiful Lake District staying at YHA Langdale. Arrive on Friday for a walk around the area, probably down to Grasmere lake . Saturday will be a high level walk taking in some mountains/the Langdale Pikes, and Sunday will offer a lower level walk near lakes and forests. Monday will be a social event, as yet undecided, but possibly boating or a visit to a Lakes town. All places for this weekend have now been taken and the booking made. There may be places still available at the hostel, but you need to make an individual booking, not try to add on to the existing group booking as this confuses the YHA and walk leader!

Start Time: 3:00pm    Grid Ref: SJ925535. *PLEASE NOTE NEW START TIME OF 15:00* From Stafford take the A34 towards Stoke, then take the A500 towards Hanley, and then the A53 towards Leek, parking is at the rear of The Plough Inn, Endon(ST9 9BE). Meet on the car park.
A circular walk around the village of Endon. Some steep climbs are rewarded by lovely views of the surrounding countryside, followed by refreshments at the Inn itself!

Sunday, 9th May 2010   BLEAKLOW AND THE HIGH PEAK    10 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK109914. Take the A57 from Glossop, heading east. After 5 miles the car park is on the left in a woodland section of the road. Parking is free.
The walk is slightly different than previously advertised, and does not now pass by the Bleaklow memorial or aircraft wreckage. The start point is the same, but we will do a circular walk from the Hope Forest, across open landscape with views across the high peak district, and return along a section of the Pennine way, finally ending through the Hope Forest once more. It will most likely be very wet and muddy underfoot, so please bear this in mind when planning what to wear. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK128604. Follow the A515 to Buxton from Ashbourne. Turn left at the signpost to Hartington. Park in the town square or on the surrounding roads.
A walk along the River Dove, Wolfscote Dale and the villages of Mill Dale and Alstonefield, with the occasional steep climb. There may be a pub stop half way round. Lunch required.

Saturday, 22nd May 2010   DOXEY MARSHES    4 miles  2 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ924234. Meet at North Walls car park, Stafford. If coming from the north head for the Gaol Gate Gyratory, and take the signs for Uttoxeter. Continue to the Queensway Gyratory and head back North and the car park is on your left.
A pleasant walk through Doxey Marshes Nature Reserve then return back by the River Sow and Victoria Park.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SO384928. Park on the roadside, and meet at the Crown Inn in Wentor, reached by taking the A49 south from Church Stretton, then turning right on the A489, then right again onto a minor road in Eaton.
A pleasant area of Shropshire, this walk travels over the Long Mynd, and passes through the villages of Minton and Asterton. Lunch required.

Friday, 28th May 2010   YORKSHIRE THREE PEAKS WEEKEND    3 nights    Grade 4
Why not spend the bank holiday weekend climbing Yorkshire's 3 Peaks, Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent? We'll be bagging one peak per day, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and finishing with a leisurely potter around on Monday morning, before returning in the afternoon. We will be staying at Dalesbridge in Austwick, near to Settle. Here we have the option of either staying in either 4 or 6-bed Bunkhouses, or camping.

From M6 Junction 34 follow the road for Kirby Lonsdale. After about four miles and turn right after a sharp left hand bend by some trees for Bentham. Follow the road through Bentham heading for Settle. When you come to the A65 turn right, the Dalesbridge Centre is situated one and a half miles on the right hand side. (Do not take any of the side roads into Clapham or Austwick villages). Those who would prefer Bunkhouse accommodation should let me know ASAP to avoid disappointment.

Start Time: 11:00am    Grid Ref: SJ575295. Drive out of Newcastle on the A53 Whitmore road, pass Loggerheads and Market Drayton, then enter the village of Hodnet and follow the sings for Hawkstone Park.
A short but interesting exploration of the towers and grottos of this 18th century folly garden. There is a cafe on site. Free parking (at time of writing) but there is a charge of around £6 to enter. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK151755. Take the A6 from Bakewell towards Buxton, and follow the B6049 to Tideswell. Drive into the centre of Tideswell and park in the Cherry Tree Square car park or surrounding roads.
A walk featuring the five dales of Tansley, Cressbrook, Water-cum-Jolly, Miller's and Tideswell. Each one is distinctive and attractive. A fairly flat walk with the occasional climb. Lunch required.

Saturday, 19th June 2010   STONE TO BARLASTON    6 miles  3 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ897345. From Stone town centre "ring road" head out on the A520 towards Leek for 100yards. Turn left into Kings Avenue before the railway line at the traffic lights. Follow Kings Avenue (which changes name to Tunley St) to the end, Station Approach (and parking) is straight ahead.
Leisurely wander from Stone to Barlaston, passing through the National Trust lowland heath of Downs Banks, and returning along the Trent & Mersey Canal. Optional pub lunch back in Stone.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ961711. From Leek take the A523 (Macclesfield road), and before entering Macclesfield turn right towards Sutton and Langley. The reservoir is in about 2 miles. The start is the Trentabank Reservoir Car Park with toilets.
The uniquely shaped Shutlingsloe (the Macclesfield Matterhorn) is visible for most of the walk, but it's not until near the end that we will stand on its top and trace our route. From the summit we will have unrestricted views of Shining Tor, Kinder, The Cloud and the mountains of Wales (assuming it is a clear day!). Lunch required.

Sunday, 27th June 2010   IRONBRIDGE    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ665037. Take the A518 from Newport down to the A442 (Queensway). Follow the A442, passing Telford, and continue on the Queensway as it becomes the A4169. Carry straight on at the Castlefields Roundabout, and then turn left into Cherry Tree Hill. At the end of Cherry Tree Hill, turn left into Wellington Road, which becomes Dale Road. At the end of Dale Road turn right into The Wharfage, and the use the Long Stay Car Park immediately on the left.
A wander around the Ironbridge Gorge, exploring parts of The Silkin Way, and crossing the famous Iron Bridge itself, before putting our feet up for a well earned rest in The Swan. Lunch required.

Sunday, 4th July 2010   TICKNALL, MELBOURNE & CALKE    11 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK353241. Take the A514 exit off the A50 and follow the road to Ticknall. Once in the village turn right into Ingleby Lane and park in the village hall car park on the left. If the car park is busy then you can park on the road outside.
A delightful walk throught the East Midlands. We start from Ticknall walking along the edge of the Staunton Harold reservoir to the old village of Melbourne. Past the hall and pool we then walk through the fields down to Staunton Harold House and Craft Centre before heading back up through the stunning Calke Park and past the abbey. Lunch required.

Sunday, 11th July 2010   CHATSWORTH FROM BAKEWELL    10 miles  4 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:45am    Grid Ref: SK217685. Take the A53 from Leek to Buxton, and then the A6 to Bakewell. Parking is on the large main car park in Bakewell, located by driving over the old bridge and turning right.
A picturesque walk past Haddon Hall to Rowsley, where we stop for lunch at the various eateries in the shopping complex or pub. Start Time: 11:00am    Grid Ref: SH649604. After entering Betws-y-coed, continue on the A5 for about 11 miles until reaching the far side of Lyn Ogwen.
Starting at the Idwal Cottage youth hostel car park (pay & display), we will ascend three 3000ft mountains: Y Garn (947m), Glyder Fawr (999m) and Glyder Fach (994m). The intention with this event is to arrive in Betws-y-coed on the Friday afternoon, or early Saturday morning, and camp at the Riverside Touring Park, Old Church Road (http://www.morris-leisure.co.uk/caravan-parks/riverside/overview.htm) (tel 01690 710310) which has 24 tent pitches at £8 each (at time of writing), and has good washing/shower facilities. The postcode for the campsite is LL24 0AL. Please note that this is a challenging mountain walk, so previous experience of walking in mountain conditions is a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to come on this walk. Lunch required.

Meet on the National Trust car park (only available for National Trust members to park on!)which is at the top-end of Top Station Road.
Starting on a ridge, the route initially descends across fields and through woodlands, with fine views over the Cheshire plain, heading towards Little Morton Hall, before climbing back up through woodland and across open moorland to Mow Cop folly. Lunch required.

Fancy a long weekend camping by the internationally renowed Jurassic Coast in Dorset (a World Heritage site)? We'll be staying at Norden Farm Campsite, near Wareham. For those of us travelling down on Friday we have a short walk planned from the campsite which will involve a circular walk along part of the Purbeck Hills, and will include a trip to Corfe Castle. Saturday's walk will take in the Purbeck coast between St Aldhelm's Head and Durlston Head, with the return leg along the Priest's Way. On Sunday, we'll undertake a stretch of the South West Coast Path, and travel past the famous limestone arch known as Durdle Door, before heading for the picturesque Lulworth Cove. We'll return to the starting point via Chaldon Down, with its dramatic views overlooking the coast. A pleasant parade through the estate of Conroy Ryder, 8th Earl of Harrowby. We will head to Milwich for the lunch stop, possibly at the pub, and return via Gayton, Pitt's Monument and a "relic" from Trentham. Interestingly, the 7th Earl, Dudley Ryder(1922-2007) was a director of Coutts, which is the royal bank and also he was the deputy chairman of the NatWest bank. Lunch required.

A mini expedition to search for the mysterious Devil's Ring and Finger, the only remains of a local neolithic stone circle. Then past Oakley Hall(1710) and onto Bloreheath, the site of the first of the battles of the Wars of the Roses when the Yorkist Earl of Salisbury defeated the Lancastrian Lord Audley's men.A stone cross erected in 1765 comemorates the spot where Audley was slain.Interestingly Margaret of Anjou(Henry VI's Queen) is said to have watched the battle from the spire of Mucklestone church and then fled to the safety of nearby Eccleshall Castle,with her horses shoes reversed when the battle was lost. Start Time: 1:00pm    Grid Ref: SK034071. Meet at Brownhills West Light Railway Station Car Park. This is ONLY accesible from the A5 from Cannock towards Brownhills. The station is brown signposted from the A5. Leave the A5 and follow the road over the M6 Toll. Turn left and on the roundabout take the first exit to the first car park.
Particulary aimed at potential new members who would like to come along meet the group and enjoy a short walk. It's also an opportunity to visit Chasewater Country Park and discover what lies at the bottom of Chasewater. The dam is undergoing repairs in 2010, and the reservoir has been drained. We will be able to walk on some paths that are normally submerged. A rare opportunity not to be missed! The walk will be an easy circular stroll around Chasewater. If you are lucky, there might be some cake involved! It is the walk leader's birthday after all..... ;-)

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK027476. From Stoke take the A52. Travel straight on at the crossroads at Cellarhead. Go through the village of Kingsley and continue along the A52. Do not take the left turn for Ipstones; instead, take the next left a few hundred feet further on.
From Froghall we'll travel along woodland trails towards Foxt, where we'll join the bridleway to Ipstones. Heading over fields and through Booth's Wood, we continue towards the Cauldon Canal, before ascending the Devil's Staircase through Crowgutter Wood. Half way round we'll stop at the Black Lion pub for refreshment before making our way towards Consall Wood. We then travel towards Kingsley, and join part of the Staffordshire Way as it passes close to the Churnet. Crossing the river, we return to the car park via paths adjacent to the Churnet Valley Railway. Lunch required.

After Slackhall take the 2nd on the right to Barber Booth and onwards into Edale. Meet in Pay and Display car park near Edale Station. Parking is limited and expensive so it's definitely worth car sharing.
A wander around the lovely Edale valley, and a stroll by the River Noe, finishing with a drink in the pub at Edale. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:15am    Grid Ref: SK117434. From Cheadle take the B5032 to Denstone, and follow the signs to Ellastone. Park by the church or on a nearby street.
A picturesque parade through Adam Bede country to Wootton Lodge,home of Anthony Bamford(Mr.JCB)and the 'prettiest house in Staffordshire' according to Pevsner. Then on past the newly rebuilt Palladian mansion of Wootton Hall home to the Hon.Johnny Greenal of the brewing family.In 1766 the writer Jean-Jacques Rousseau took refuge here and wrote part of his famous autobiographical 'Confessions',the facade of his hermits cave has been re erected at nearby Consall Hall gardens.Rousseau's writing helped kick start both the Romantic movement and the French revolution. Next, onto the remains of Calwich Abbey, where in 1741,whilst staying with his friend Bernard Granville, Handel wrote his famous Messiah...oh and theres also the JCB test track for good measure.Lunch required. A lovely walk through South Staffordshire villages. We start along the canal and walk up to Tatenhill and then across to Dunstall. We then pick the Way For The Millenium to Wychnor before heading back to Barton. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ792229. Head along the A518 out of Stafford; then after going through Gnosall Heath, take Pladiwick Road, just before the bridge. Carry on down this lane going onto Norbury Road, which should take you straight to Norbury Junction. The walk starts at Norbury Junction where parking is available on the road opposite the pub car park (car sharing is advisable as the pub car park has car clamping in effect for non-patrons!).
This walk explores the rural countryside of Staffordshire, adjoining the Shropshire boundary. Using paths, quiet lanes, tracks and canalside paths the route provides an intimate look at this part of Staffordshire. This walk includes one of Staffordshire's largest heronries, a section of old Roman road, a lost canal and a fine country hall. Lunch required.

A pleasant walk, offering superb views (weather permitting) from the top of "The Weaver". Having travelled over the top of the Weaver Hills we'll make our way, via Wootton and Stanton, towards the Thorswood nature reserve, and its mix of mature woodland, ancient burial mounds and open limestone grassland, before returning to Waterhouses. At the next crossroads, go straight over. Follow road to bottom of hill, turn right. At traffic lights, turn left and follow up hill to roundabouts. Go towards Heath Hayes and down the hill, the Cross Keys (42 Hill St, Hednesford,WS12 2DN)is on your right at the bottom of the hill where the road flattens out.
We are hosting the Area Ramblers' AGM this year. Part of the activities will be a 5 mile circular Chase Walk, starting and finishing at the venue, The Coach House Suite, Cross Keys Public House and Hotel. The walk will take in parts of Hednesford Hills and the infamous Hednesford Raceway. This walk will be limited to those people directly involved in the AGM, so apologies in advance potential new members, this isn't an open walk. We'll start from the Loggerheads Inn on the A53, up the road a little and then into Burnt Wood. We will follow this south through woods and fields hopefully seeing some wildlife along the way. Then east through Glass Houses and back north through Bishop's Wood. At Fairoak Grange we should get a chance to see a peacock or two. Lunch required.

The AGM will include a 4 mile circular walk from the venue before the formal meeting begins. The formal meeting will follow the agenda as set by the Area Ramblers and will include a speaker on issues relevant to the Ramblers' Association and its members. All members of the group are invited to support the meeting as assistance will be required in setting up the venue, attending the car park, leading the walk groups and serving refreshments. Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ950430. From the A50 between Stoke and Uttoxeter, take the Meir Park turn-off (also signposted for the A521 and The Foxfield Railway). Don't turn into Meir Park itself, but take the opposite turn-off, on to the old Uttoxeter Road. This immediately loops back on itself, and passes the Catchems Corner pub before becoming Caverswall Lane and crossing the railway. Continue on this road, which becomes School Lane, pass the entrance to Caverswall Castle, and turn right at the junction onto The Dams. Park in the The Red House, pub car park on the left.
A stroll over the hills and fields around Caverswall and Dilhorne, crossing The Foxfield Railway, and discovering the secret location of the Bat Cave. Bat Lunch Required.

Points to Remember:

2. Make sure that you are suitably dressed for the weather. Remember that some walks are on exposed high land and the weather can be cold and wet. Denim jeans are not suitable for high-level walks.

4. If the walk leader decides to shorten the walk then that decision is final and is not open to negotiation. The leader will only do this when there is a good reason for doing so.
