Sunday, 6th January 2008   CANNOCK CHASE    9 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SJ980175. On the A34 from Stafford to Cannock turn left after the Chetwynd Arms (Pub is on right) on to Camp Road. After about a mile take the first left onto Chase Road. Parking is at the Chase Road Corner Car Park located on the first sharp bend.
A lovely walk across the varying terrain of the Chase allowing us to shake a leg after the Xmas break. We will be attempting to take in three cafes on the walk if the're all open! First taking in the Forest Centre then over to the Visitor Centre before working our way back over the gentle undulating hills to Springslade lodge before back to the cars. Lunch required.

Sunday, 13th January 2008   BIRCHOVER AND THE NINE LADIES    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK237622. Park across from the Red Lion pub, Birchover.
Starting off at Birchover we walk across Stanton Moor and the Nine Ladies megalithic stone circle. The walk includes some fine sections passing streams, fields and semi woodland. Lunch required.

Sunday, 20th January 2008   GRADBACH AND BEYOND    9 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ997662. Take the A53 Leek to Buxton road. Coming from Leek pass the Roaches and take the next left to Gradbach. Follow the road and parking is on the right hand side after Manor Farm.
Starting from Gradbach Car Park, close to the YHA Hostel, this walk will take us to the rarely visited Quarnford area before visiting Lud's Church. We will also take in Three Shires Head, Hawks Nest and Goldstitch Moss. Lunch required.

Sunday, 27th January 2008   JACOB'S LADDER    8 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK124853. Take the A6 northward from Buxton to Chapel-en-le-frith, and then turn left onto Sheffield Rd (A6187) towards Slackhall. After Slackhall take the 2nd on the right to Barber Booth and onwards into Edale. After the turn off to the left for the railway station, you'll find a large pay and display car park.
This walk takes in parts of the Pennine Way, we climb Jacob's Ladder, and visit Dale Head and the Kinder Plateau. Weather permitting there should be some excellent views across The Peak District. Lunch required.

The first of a new series of pub meets. Although we arrange a wide and varied social programme, on the last Friday of every month we are holding pub meets especially aimed at welcoming new members to the group. Old and new members meet up to find out group news, info on weekends and a general gossip! We alternate the pub meets between Hanley, Newcastle, Leek, Stafford and Stone to give everyone the opportunity of turning up. We start about 8pm and although we don't have any kind of banners or posters with the group name on - you'll find us OK ! Shake off the January blues as we start the year off at Granvilles with its laid back atmosphere and live music. All welcome !

Sunday, 3rd February 2008   TRENTHAM GARDENS    12 miles  7 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SJ868405. Take the A34 Stone to Trentham Road. Follow the signs for Trentham Gardens and parking.
The walk starts at Trentham Gardens, as this has parking and other facilities. A footpath through a golf course leads under the M6 and gives access to the wooded Hanchurch Hills. Here a series of tracks with a few field-paths lead to the village of Swynnerton with its inn. Further tracks and lanes lead to a climb over the hills to the west of Trentham and an easy return. Lunch required.

Saturday, 9th February 2008  MEAL AT FLYING HORSE, LEEK
Start Time: 8:00pm Take main (A53) road from Stoke-on-Trent into Leek. Go straight up Broad Street (after passing Focus and Morrisons on your right) to traffic lights. Go straight through lights up to big roundabout with clock tower to right. Turn right off the roundabout onto Ashbourne Road (A523). Follow road for about 1/2 mile past the turning on left with "Charles Leek & Son" also on the left. Continue up Ashbourne Road until you see Moorlands Hospital on your left. The Flying Horse is directly opposite. Turn down road by the pub and the car park is at the rear of the pub.
I will book table for 8. If anymore show an interest I will increase booking. The pub has an extension which is the restaurant area. I have been there many times for midday bar snacks as well as evening meals, and the food is always excellent. The service is also first rate.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ693026. Parking is near the Ironbribge attraction, the Tar Tunnel. Attractions in area are well signposted. If coming from Blists Hill Museum, go down the hill and turn left towards Coalport. Parking is on Left. If coming from Ironbridge turn right to Coalport before it heads up the hill to Blists Hill Museum.
A walk in the very beautiful Ironbridge Gorge taking in it's most famous attraction on the way. We will cross to the south side of the river and make our way over towards the National Trust property of Benthall hall. Then we will work our way back to Ironbridge, and cross over the bridge before heading back along the Gorge. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK122853. Take A6 towards Stockport. Turn off on the A623 towards Sparrowpit. Then follow signs to Edale. Park and meet at train station where walk will start.
Walk will take us to Kinder Scout and Plateau, giving great views (weather permitting) over the Peak District. If we have a frost we may be lucky to see Kinder Downfall frozen into a stunning, peat-coloured ice-fall. Lunch required.

Sunday, 24th February 2008   SHUTTINGSLOE AND TEGGS NOSE    12 miles  7 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ983687. From Buxton take the A54 towards Congleton and after the junction with the A537 take the second R to Wildboarclough. Park oppsoite the first right turn in a layby area after the Crag Inn in Wildboarclough.
Startng off with a steep ascent up Shuttlingsloe we go through the Macclesfield Forest and up to Tegss Nose. We then head on to the Cat and Fiddle and return via 3 Shires Head. Lunch required. Lunch required.

Sunday, 2nd March 2008   EYAM VIA LONGSTONE EDGE    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK214767. Start/ finish is the Parish Church of St Laurence. Take the A619 out of Bakewell. Turn on to the A623 passing through Stonet Middleton then go right on to the B6521 and follow the signs for Eyam.
Starting from the infamous plague village we head up to High Rake onto Longstone Edge and experience the beautiful Derbyshire Dale. There are some steep sections but the rewards are some fine views. Hopefully no one will catch anything on this walk ! Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK113796. Going north from Buxton on the A6 towards Chapel-en-le-Frith, pass through Dove Holes and turn right onto the A623. Carry on through Sparrow Pit, to Peak Forest for the start of the walk. In Peak Forest turn left into Church Lane, where there seems to be plenty of room for parking on road.
This long but gentle walk passes through plenty of dales, Dam, Hay, Peter, Monk's and Miller's to name a few and includes an opportunity for a pint. Lunch required.

Sunday, 16th March 2008   WENLOCK EDGE    8 miles  5 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SO612996. From Much Wenlock take the B4371 towards Church Stretton. The car park is national trust and is the first on the right hand side of the road.
A walk with superb views (given the right weather). The route starts by followig Wenlock Edge and then a descent into Hughley. A meander along some tracks and field paths and ends with a short climb through woodlands back to the edge. Lunch required.

A weekend of camping in Snowdonia (Gwern Gof Isaf see Grid Ref) exploring Tryfan Mountain and surrounding area. This will be a weekend for everyone with some climbing for the more adventurous! There is NO shops or Pub near to the campsite and therefore you will have to take your own Beer/Port and grub for the whole weekend. Camping equipment NOT provided!

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ213420. From Wrexham, take A483 south towards Ruabon. Then head west at junction about 5 miles out from Wrexham onto A539 towards Llangollen. Cross railway bridge and take first right over the river towards car park.
Phil's riposte to Roland's excellent Llangollen mountain walk last year. We will follow the escarpment along the top of Ruabon mountain (aka Eglwyseg Mountain) and back along the banks of the river Dee. Lunch required.

Saturday, 5th April 2008   FOREST OF BOWLAND    14 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3
Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SD543573. Take M6 up as far as junction 33, then turn left at A6 roundabout, heading south, then turn immediately left onto Hampson Lane. After 500m, at T junction, turn right then next left after another 500m (Five Lane Ends). Follow road for three miles and then take a right at the crossroads with a phone box. Then follow lane for another 2 miles to Jubilee tower, where car park is located. Free at time of writing.
Another walk over the Forest of Bowland, hopefully affording good views of the Lakes and the Three (Yorkshire) Peaks. This is a joint walk with the Stoke & Newcastle group. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK131555. From Ashbourne take the A515 North. When out of Ashbourne take the 4th turning left and follow signs to Alstonefield. Walk will start at the George Pub.
Starting from Alstonefield we will follow the Rive Dove into Dove Dale, the most dramatic Dale in the Peaks. You will marvel at the impossible leaning tower of Ilam Rock and climb to the view point of Thorpe Cloud. We will then join the River Manifold and head back up steam to the famous Thor's Cave. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK200437. Approximately 1 mile south of Ashbourne on the A52 heading for Derby, take a right, signposted Osmaston. Street parking but visitors can use the village hall car park on your right as you enter the village.
A gentle walk following an established trail from Osmaston through woodlands to Shirley. Continuing through to Longford and then onto Rodsley before returning back to Osmaston. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ970433. Follow the Stoke to Uttoxeter section of the A50. Leave A50 at Blythe Bridge junction following road to Forsbrook (A521). Follow road for about 1 kilometre taking a left hand turn to Dilhorne. Follow road for about 2 kilometres. The starting point is the pub car park on the left hand side.
Starting from Charlie Bassett's pub in Dilhorne, the walk will go through the fields around Dilhorne and Caverswall. We can enjoy a pint and some fodder at the end of the walk in the aforesaid drinking establishment. Hence the reason for starting at the pub! Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK036869. From Stoke on Trent take the A53 to Buxton, then take the A6 to Dove Holes. Head for Glossop, Chinley on the A624 and continue to Hayfield. Parking on the Pay and Display for the Sett Valley Trail Car Park.
Starting on the Sett Valley Trail we have a pleasant walk over the Hills around Hayfield before heading up the steep descent to the Kinder Valley Reservoir. Lunch required.

Start Time: 12 noon    Grid Ref: SJ755485. From Newcastle-Under-Lyme: Take the A525 to Keele, which eventually goes onto the A531 to Madeley. Go through Madeley to Betley, passing the Hand And Trumpet pub on your left. Soom you will go round a left hand bend with the village hall on your left. Park in the village hall car park. If the Caravan Club have taken it over, parking is in the village itself, and we'll meet outside the The Swan Pub in Betley.
A fine good after-lunch walk through most of Betley Common, going over the Crewe to Staffordshire mainline at two points, taking us out and back into Betley where we can go and rest/drink/laugh/giggle in one of the many pubs along the roadside (the Hand and Trumpet is best).

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ888383. Follow A34 from Stoke-on-Trent. Just after Tittensor take left hand turn signposted for Barlaston. Follow road for about 2 km. Park at Plume of Feathers public house by the canal.
A mostly flat, level circular walk starting in Barlaston by the canal (below railway crossing). Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SD638149. From South, take M6 to J 21A and then head east towards Manchester on M62. At J12 head north towards Bolton & Leeds. At J15 head NW towards Bolton on M61. Exit motorway at J6 towards Bolton. Then take A673 towards Horwich. Just past junction with B5238 on left and B6226 on right, take next right about 100m on, towards Rivington. At Tee junction in Rivington, turn right up the hill. Bear right after about 3/4 mile and then head straight on at next junction towards car park.
A walk across Winter Hill and onto Darwen Hill (time permitting), via the Belmont Reservoir beauty spot. Lunch required.

Thursday, 5th June 2008   BOOT BEER FESTIVAL AND WALKING WEEKEND    3 nights    Grade 3
A weekend's camping and walking in the Lake District with a large range of beer on tap in the evenings in the three pubs in the village (see www.bootbeer.co.uk). Book your own camping at Hollins Farm Tel: 019467 23253 £7.30 per adult and £6 per pitch a night (deposit required) quote Staffordshire Walkers and we will be allocated a space together (discount for Camping and Caravaning Club members). Accommodation needs to be booked early as this is a popular event in a small village. We will do a medium length walk on the Friday (about 7-8 miles) have a BBQ in the evening at the campsite and then do a longer walk on the Saturday which will be followed by a pub meal in the evening. Start Time: 12 noon    Grid Ref: SK043126. From the A460 cannock to Rugeley Road there is a sign for the castle ring it's heading towards Rawnsley, follow the signs to the Castle Ring car park.
A pleasant amble across the chase around the Beudesert area of the chase ... followed by a few well deserved drinks in the castle tavern afterwards.

Sunday, 15th June 2008   ELLASTONE    10 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK116435. Take the A52 running from Leek to Ashbourne. Ellastone is signposted on the right hand side. If you hit the A515 to Ashbourne ... you've gone too far ... turn around and Ellastone is signposted on your left.
From Upper Ellastone we travel along field paths and other lesser walked trails towards Rocester. In Rocester we pause to marvel at the antique roman JCB factory and pick up the river Dove to meander back to Ellastone. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ997662. From the A53 turn L into Flash Village and bear left at the fork, follow the road round a sharp right hand turn and take the 3 third left (towards gradbach Youth Hostel). Parking is on the right hand side in approximately 1/2 a mile.
We walk through Flash, 3 Shires Head, Wildboarclough, to Danebridge and back via Luds Church. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK005530. Follow A523 Leek to Ashbourne Road for about 5 km. Take turning for Apesford / Basford. Follow road for about 2 km. Coombes Valley is on your left hand side.
Using the car park at Coombes Valley Nature Reserve the walk follows paths through fields to the eastern outskirts of Leek, through Ladydale estate and onto the railway / canal following the same to Cheddleton Flint Mill. From there we will follow roads and footpaths back through Basford to Coombes Valley. Lunch required.

Monday, 30th June 2008  HAMLET AT THE CASTLE
Start Time: 8:00pm Stafford Castle Castle Church, Staffordshire UK
Established in 1991, Stafford Festival Shakespeare is one of the UKs leading Open Air Productions, which is held annually between June and July at Stafford Castle. The event is the centrepiece of the Boroughs popular Stafford Festival which celebrates local, national and international performing and visual arts talent during the month of July. Previous performances have covered the full range of the Bards work including tragedies, comedies and histories with an individual set being produced and designed each year for specific plays. The staging of the event is completely open to the elements but all seating for the production is under cover. Stafford Castle makes for a superb venue high on a hilltop overlooking the county town of Stafford. This historic setting has an unrivalled resonance for Shakespeares writing, and the specially designed stage set, combined with the production village of marquees and state of the art covered grandstand seating, makes for a unique theatre setting. The eighteenth annual Stafford Festival Shakespeare Production to be presented Open Air at Stafford Castle will be Hamlet. The play begins following the death of the King of Denmark and with the succession of his throne by his brother Claudius. Prince Hamlet mourns both his fathers death and his mothers hasty remarriage to Claudius. When his fathers ghost appears to tell him that Claudius murdered him, Hamlet vows revenge. The popular tragedy runs from Thursday 26 June to Saturday 12 July 2008. Tickets are £20 ish depending on where which seats we get. The date is to be agreed with everyone interested but i am aiming for a week night. Seats are getting booked up now so if you could let me know if you are interested by the end of May that would be good.

Start Time: 6:00pm Stafford Gatehouse Theatre
Stafford Beer Festival 2008 - Saturday 5th July 12-4.30pm & 6-11pm 5th July Heart of Staffordshire Branch will be holding the first Real Ale Festival to be held at the Gatehouse Theatre. Over 30 breweries from Staffordshire and neighbouring Counties will be represented, including new microbreweries. Real cider and perry will also be available. Live music will come from local folk and blues bands. Beers - Approximately 80 Real Ales & Ciders. Low carbon footprint, 'LocAle' theme; all beers brewed within 30 miles of venue (35 breweries including 30 microbreweries). Saturday evening tickets are £6.00. Ticket prices include programme, commemorative glass (subject to availability) and free £1.00 drinks token. Undamaged commemorative glass is refundable (£2.00).

Just before crossing the bridge into Oakamoor village turn right (signs for Ramblers Retreat). Just after the Admirals pub turn left into the car park.
Enjoyable walk in picturesque Dimmingsdale - what better excuse required to end up in one of the area's best tea shops for coffee and fruit crumble (Yum!), or any one of a number of traditional culinary delights. Lunch required.

Start Time: 1:00pm    Grid Ref: SJ868407. Meet at 1.00pm at the Garden centre entrance by the main car park for a 4 mile (max) walk to the monument and then back again to Trentham Park for a BBQ at 4.00pm onwards. Park near the church SJ865410 for the BBQ
A short walk to the monument to gain good views over the nearby parkland. Then we start the BBQ in Trentham Park, DON'T FORGET TO BRING FOOD, BEER AND FUEL !!!

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ994768. From A54 turn left onto A537 towards Macclesfield. Turn right onto road labelled Hooleyhey Lane on map. Park at Pym Chair car park located off to the left before road becomes labelled as The Street (which heads down to Errwood Reservoir).
The Goyt Valley walk crosses open moorland and gritstone edges at the top of the hills, wooded hillsides, deep-cut streams and reservoirs in the bottom of the valley. This is a scenic walk which takes in all these changes of scenery along its route. Lunch required.

From Matlock we ascend Masons Hill and pass through Bonsall and Winster before returning to Matlock along the river. Lunch required.

Saturday, 2nd August 2008   WALES - CARNEDD LLEWELYN & DAFYDD    11 miles  8 hrs   Grade 4
Start Time: 10:15am    Grid Ref: SH633663. Coming from the north take the A5 to Bethesda. Pass through Bethesda and just before Braichmelyn forest turn left onto Braichmelyn road. (the junction to the right is the B4409). Follow this narrow road and at the end of this road take a very sharp right turn (Ffordd Gerlan). Continue for approx 1/2km (passing the small Spar shop) and find a parking space in Gerlan. The walk will start near the junction with Ciltwllan. If you come to the bridge you have gone too far!
A challenging yet rewarding walk in the Carneddau range. The walk will take in at least 2 of the Welsh peaks above 3000ft. Be prepared for a steep ascent and in parts a steep descent. This is a grade 4 walk so if you have any questions please contact the walk leader. Lunch required.

Start Time: 11:00am    Grid Ref: SJ822484. Head north from Newcastle along the A34. Turn left at the second roundabout (by MacDonalds), at the next roundabout take the second exit following the sign for Apedale. Then keep on going until eventually you come to the country park car park and visitor centre.
A short walk around Apedale country park, much of which is reclaimed from the former colliery workings, and including a stop at the Gresley Arms. Followed optionally by a look around the visitor centre and a trip underground down some of the old mine workings. Please let me know by 25th July if you want to come on the mine tour, which will cost approx £4.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK114725. From Buxton, take A6 towards Bakewell for 3.5 miles. Parking on A6.
A walk down the sheltered ravine of Cheedale, following the Monsall trail and onto Preistcliffe, Taddington, Sough Top and Chelmorton, hopefully in time for a pint at the George and Dragon (or something like that), before walking back to Wyedale. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK085545. From Leek, take the A523 (Ashbourne Rd). Turn left at the Bottomhouse crossroads onto the B5053 and travel towards Onecote. About a mile after Onecote turn right onto Parson's Lane, following the signs for Grindon. Parking is adjacent to the church.
Starting with a leisurely descent from Grindon towards the Manifold Valley, we travel along the Manifold Way before ascending Wetton Hill and Ecton Hill. After Warslow we return via Ossoms Hill, following the route of an old bridleway. Lunch required.

Originally built as a hunting lodge for King John in 1205 on the site of an earlier stronghold, its towers were added in 1293 as part of the Ring of Stone around Wales. We will be exploring the Royal Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK099542. Traveling on the A523 from Leek to Ashbourne. At crossraods with the B5053 turn left. Follow the road to Onecote, continue onwards turning right after a mile onto Parsons Lane to Grindon. Continue through Grindon and follow the road to Weag's bridge. Parking is on the left just before the bridge.
A long classic walk dropping into and climbing out of Dovedale and the Manifold Way. Lunch required.

Saturday, 6th September 2008   SUTTON PARK    4 miles  2 hrs   Grade 1
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SP113962. Follow the A5127 south from Lichfield to Sutton Coldfield. At first set of crossroad traffic lights approaching the town centre, turn right (signposted Sutton Park) into Anchorage Road. At the end of the road turn right onto Upper Clifton Road, then take the third exit at the next island onto Park Road and bear left through Sutton Park town gate. We'll meet on the first car park on the left after the second cattle grid. Also easily reachable from Sutton Coldfield railway station via a short 5 minute walk.
A gentle stroll through ancient woods and heathland, on mostly buggy friendly footpaths. Contrary to the usual club rules, you are more than welcome to bring children along on this walk. Playground/pub stop at end of walk.

Sunday, 7th September 2008   SPARROWPIT AND MAM TOR FROM CASTLETON    12 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK149829. Take the A6 northward out of Buxton, through Dove Holes and turn left onto the A623 towards Sparrowpit. At Sparrowpit turn off the A623 past The Wanted Inn, to join Wannats Pass on the A6187 which will take you into Castleton. Just inside Castleton, turn left at the mini-roundabout into the large public car park where we'll meet for the start of the walk. If you're early enough there is some free on road parking, on the right as you enter Castleton - The Bulls Head pub next door to the public car park was also slightly cheaper.
Leaving Castleton on the Limestone Way we raise up through Cave Dale enjoying a fine view of a Norman toilet on the side of the castle above us. We pass through a pleasant wooded plantation before reaching Sparrowpit, and then move on to climb Rushup Edge. On reaching Lords Seat the views in all directions are spectacular - if you can see them. The final ascent to the trig point at Mam Tor should provide an excellent photo opportunity, before descending to Hollins Cross and returning to Castleton. Lunch required.

This legendary walk has returned with the added thrill of a night at the Castleton YHA; for those who would like to slake their thirst with real ale and not have to drive home. . Views from the top, should, weather permitting, be well worth the effort. Sunday could offer another short walk if legs permit. Lunch required. Lunch required.

Trentham Active is a tree based adventure ropes course, set within the tranquil grounds of Trentham Estate and is a truly spectacular journey. Whether you are a novice adventurer or a serial adrenalin junkie our courses, which can vary from 3m to 14m above the ground, will certainly delight and challenge you. The Extremist Course (1.4m+) The extremist course consists of 2 levels. It starts with an 8 obstacle at around 3m to ease you into your session. It then progresses to up to 10m high with 14 more thrilling obstacles, including spiders webs, wobbly bridges, tight rope walks and much more. The grand finale is a jaw dropping adrenalised 14m plunge on the Powerfan. Not for the fainthearted! The entire course will take approximately 2 hours to complete. The course is £20 and I will need to book in advance so please let me know if you are interested by the end of August.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ979190. Follow signs to Brocton from the A513 at Milford Common. In Brocton take turning at The Village Green onto the Chase heading towards the Glacial Boulder, road goes up a hill (called Chase Road). Car park is first on the left after a quarry marked Coppice Hill Car park.
A gentle walk over the rolling hills of the Chase taking in some of it's most well known landmarks and also taking in the grounds of Shugborough Hall. Lunch may not be required if your willing to use one of the cafes at either Shugborough or Milford. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK027476. Take the A52 to Froghall (heading towards Ashbourne). Once in Froghall ... go over the bridge, past the 1st left (B5053 to Ipstones) and take the next left towards Foxt. Parking is on the right at Froghall wharf.
A gentle amble along the Cauldon canal to the Black Lion at Consall Forge. Through and around Consall nature reserve. We return with the river Churnet to our left ... back to Kingsley and continue through to Froghall. Lunch required.

Start Time: 12 noon    Grid Ref: SJ862214. Take the A518 from Stafford to Gnosall. Go into Haughton and just before leaving the village - take the last right following the brown signpost for the Yew Tree Pub. Follow the road round and just before the bridge on the left hand side is the car park ... it is a little obscure but you'll see it if you drive slowly.
A short stroll along a disused railway line, past Stallbrook Hall on to Berry Ring and a pleasant field walk back to Haughton for a pint or two!

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK089649. From Stoke, follow A52 to Leek, then onto Ashbourne road for 4 miles. Turn left at crossroads by Green Man at Bottomhouse and follow B5303 road north for about 8 miles to Longnor. Parking in square or on B5303 entering the village.
A walk along the banks of the river Dove and the newly opened access land around Pilsbury. Lunch required.

Stow on the Wold Weekend, 10th and 11th October cost is £36 no breakfast so you bring your own. Walks will be in Autumn sunshine as the leaves are just turning at this time of year, walks will be around 11 miles or so with pub stops etc, Saturday night will be spent in the Queens Head for a rather excellent meal, first people to book on will get the places as only a few have been reserved as they want such a large deposit.

We will explore a less known section of the River Dove, passing the remains of Calwich Abbey and discovering some attractive areas of Staffordshire Countryside. Lunch required.

A walk exploring the mysterious moors and romantic ruins of the Goyt Valley. It's a varied route with huge views from the highest point in the southern half of the Peak District. Lunch required.

A wander over smiths hill to Barton under Needwood. Through Wychor Park to Yoxall followed by a gentle saunter back through parts of Needwood Forest. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ408056. Take the A488 west from Shrewsbury. Just after passing through Pontesford take the left turn by a John Deere tractor garage signposted to Earl's Hill nature reserve. Follow this road until just after it bends to the right, you will see the car park on the left. Parking is limited so please car share if possible.
We start with a short but steep climb to the top of Earl's Hill for some (hopefully) spectacular views. After making our way through the hills to the west of the Long Mynd we climb to the north end of the Stiperstones ridge before returning to the car park by circling Earl's Hill Lunch required.

Start Time: 12 noon    Grid Ref: SJ955578. Take the A523 Macclesfield Road from Leek towards Rushton Spencer. Turn left onto the B5331 towards Rudyard... follow the road until it crosses the old railway line ... parking is on the left hand side at the site of the former Rudyard station.
A gentle amble around Rudyard Lake or Reservoir? You decide. Taking in the hotel rudyard, cliffe park and the miniature railway ... a hot chocolate or two may be available on route!

Sunday, 16th November 2008   HOPE BOWDLER AND CAER CARADOC    8 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SO468932. Parking is on the side of the B4371 Church Stretton to Much Wenlock Road. If coming from Church Stretton it is a large layby on the left just after the right turn to Hazler Road. There are public footpaths on left and right just before it and a sign about rubbish there. Parking is reasonably limited (about 8 or 9 cars) so car sharing advised.
A walk in a beautiful area of Shropshire offering spectacular views on a good day. We will head over the hills around Hope Bowdler over to Cardington and then loop round to take in Caer Caradoc on the way back. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ995662. Take the A53 Leek to Buxton road. After the Roaches turn left (Signposted Flash). Follow the road and turn left at the T junction at the end. Follow signs to the YHA and park in the car park on the right.
A pleasant walk (with some steeper ascents) via Birchenough hill, Shutlingsloe and returning via the Three Shires Heads. Lunch required.

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SK180467. Travelling east on the A50, after Uttoxeter take the A515 into Ashbourne. The walk will start from the Car Park in the centre of Ashbourne (where they hold the market) - on the junction of Buxton Road and Union Street. There is a free car park five minutes walk away, on the right, up Cokayne Avenue.
Initially going north on the Tissington Trail we visit Illam Rock, Bunster Hill, and Illam itself, before strolling along by the Rivers Manifold and Dove, and returning to Ashbourne via Mapleton for a well deserved pint. Lunch required.

A lovely 8 mile walk, taking in some of the lesser known paths around the area. Lunch required.

Monday, 29th December 2008   NEW YEAR IN BATH    3 nights    Grade 2
A New Year to remember (depending on alcohol consumption !). Staying at Bath YHA, a beautiful Italianate mansion in its own gardens. Walks will included Cheddar Gorge, city walk and lots of pubs, culture and a repeat of last years fancy dress New Years Eve. Please book early for this as it is a popular hostel and FULL payment is at the end of September.

Points to Remember:
1. Please call the walk leader before the walk in case any details have changed.
2. Make sure that you are suitably dressed for the weather. Remember that some walks are on exposed high land and the weather can be cold and wet. Denim jeans are not suitable for high-level walks.
3. Dogs are welcome but only with the prior agreement of the walk leader
4. If the walk leader decides to shorten the walk then that decision is final and is not open to negotiation. The leader will only do this when there is a good reason for doing so.
5. Even if a walk does not state packed lunch, it is always advisable to bring something to eat and drink.
6. If transport is shared, please provide the driver with a share of the fuel costs.
7. Non RA members are welcome to join us for 3 walks before being asked to join the RA. There are no exceptions to this.
8. Regrettably, due to the nature of the Sunday programme, we are unable to accept children on our these walks.
